LINCOLN, R.I-
In a high-stakes Rhode Island conference clash, the Lincoln High School Lions and the Mount Pleasant High School Kilties went toe-to-toe on Thursday night under the lights at Conley Stadium, delivering a gritty, physical showcase of small-town gridiron passion.
The matchup, featured prominently on NBC 10’s Friday Night Rivals, brought together two programs desperate to assert dominance in the league standings. Coming into the contest, the historic weight of the rivalry leaned toward Mount Pleasant, who previously commanded this series with explosive, high-scoring performances—including a memorable 52-14 blowout back in 2021. This time around, the Lions were determined to rewrite the script.
From the opening kickoff, the game transformed into a classic trench war. Mount Pleasant relied heavily on their signature athleticism, utilizing a fast-paced ground assault to test the edges of the Lincoln defense. However, the Lions countered with disciplined, fundamental football, clogging the running lanes and forcing the Kilties into uncomfortable passing situations.
Defensive stands defined the rhythm of the game, with both coaching staffs turning the match into a chess game of adjustments. Every yard gained felt earned, punctuated by thunderous collisions that kept the vocal crowd on its feet. Special teams also played a pivotal role, pinning offenses deep and forcing long fields throughout the evening.
While the varsity squads have settled their business for the week, the rivalry shifts to the underclassmen. The Lincoln JV squad is already preparing to defend their home turf as they host Mount Pleasant this coming Monday, October 12, at high noon.
