Vandebilt converts two-point attempt to secure dramatic rivalry victory over E.D. White

HOUMA, La. — Rivalry games have a way of producing unforgettable moments, and Thursday night’s matchup between E.D. White Catholic and Vandebilt Catholic was no exception.

With the game tied 21-21 at the end of regulation, the longtime rivals headed to overtime.

E.D. White struck first, finding the end zone and converting the extra point to take a 28-21 advantage. Vandebilt responded with a touchdown of its own, pulling within one.

Rather than kick the extra point and extend the game, the Terriers put everything on one play.

Vandebilt quarterback Rivers Haydel connected with Jackson Jarveaux on the two-point conversion, lifting the Terriers to a dramatic 29-28 victory.

The win snapped Vandebilt’s decade-long drought against E.D. White and gave the Terriers another memorable chapter in one of the Bayou Region’s most recognizable high school football rivalries.

For E.D. White, it was a heartbreaking finish after the Cardinals battled Vandebilt possession for possession through four quarters and overtime.
