10 Best WWE SummerSlam Wrestling Attire, Ranked

In 1985, WWE introduced Wrestlemania to the wrestling universe. The event’s success sparked massive growth for WWE. So much so that in 1987, WWE launched their second yearly event, survivor sets. By 1988, WWE was ready to add a summer celebration to their yearly event calendar. Enter, summer slam.

Despite being the third WWE event created, in the eyes of many fans, summer slam is WWE’s second biggest show of the year, just behind Wrestlemania. As such, it only makes sense for many superstars to show off some of their fancy threads at “The Biggest Party Of The Summer.” A handful of performers over the years have blown fans away with some of their past summer slam gear.

10 Rey Mysterio: SummerSlam 2012

Rey Mysterio is in rarefied air when it comes to memorable attires. In reality, only “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Shawn Michaels can even be mentioned in the same breath as Mysterio in that category. While Mysterio has historically saved his best attributes of him for Wrestlemania, he’s no stranger to getting noticed for his summer slam attire.

At summer slam 2012, Mysterio challenged The Miz for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. While Mysterio came up short in his efforts to become champion, his Batman-inspired attire left a lasting impression on many fans. It wouldn’t be the last time Mysterio paid homage to “The Caped Crusader.”

9 “Macho Man” Randy Savage: SummerSlam 1989

Some performers’ worst efforts can sometimes be better than other performers’ best efforts. “Macho Man” Randy Savage’s attire at summer slam 1989 is a great example of this. When compared to some of the other looks Savage rocked over the years, his summer slam 1989 attire is mild.

However, in a vacuum, Savage’s ring gear at that event was an amazing look. That night, Savage opted to go with a silver color scheme. It’s not the most iconic Savage attire ever but it stood out. This would be the only time Savage wore this particular silver attire.

8 Ricochet: SummerSlam 2019

Not many Indy wrestlers have captured the wrestling audience’s attention quite as Ricochet did in the mid-2010s. Blessed with otherworldly athleticism, Ricochet is unlike any superstar on WWE’s main roster. His unique move set makes Ricochet as close to a real-life comic book hero as WWE can get.

With that in mind, it came as no shock when Ricochet paid tribute to one of his favorite comic book heroes, Nightwing, at summer slam 2019. The black and blue full-body suit Ricochet wore that night looked like it came straight from Dick Grayson’s closet. It was an awesome tribute to an often overlooked comic book character.

7 The Ultimate Warrior: SummerSlam 1990

Despite his legendary status in the wrestling business, The Ultimate Warrior was never viewed by anyone as a great or even decent worker. What Warrior did bring to the table was an animalistic intensity that drew fans in by the droves. Part of Warrior’s appeal came from his eye-catching ring attire from him.

At summer slam 1990, Warrior sported one of his best looks ever. That night, Warrior ran down to the ring wearing black trunks with multi-colored warrior logos all over them. He paired that with his customary arm tassels and some yellow boots. The pièce de résistance was the WWE Championship Warrior wore that night which featured a turquoise strap. Overall, it’s one of Warrior’s best looks ever.

6 Randy Orton: SummerSlam 2004

Sometimes in pro wrestling, less is more. That notion even applies to ring attire in some cases. Randy Orton’s summer slam 2004 look is a prime example of that. Throughout his career, Randy Orton has worn the same attire, with only minor tweaks incorporated over the years. Most of the time, Orton’s trunks are black. On special occasions though, Orton will add some color to his gear.

Becoming the youngest World Heavyweight Champion in the history of the business certainly qualifies as a special occasion. At summer slam 2004, Orton would capture the World Title wearing these orange trunks. It was a simple change but it went a long way. The orange Orton trunks are arguably his most memorable attire of him ever.

5 The Mega Powers: SummerSlam 1988

In 1988, WWE had a lot of positive momentum behind them. By that point, Wrestlemania was a huge hit, Survivor Series was looking like a winner too, and the company wanted to add an attraction during the summer. This led to the inception of SummerSlam. To headline the first summer slam, WWE booked the biggest match they could, The Mega Powers vs. The MegaBucks.

At the show, The Mega Powers showed up looking like a cohesive unit. Hulk Hogan, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, and Miss Elizabeth all wore matching red and yellow outfits. This was not a departure for Hogan but it was a change of pace for Savage and Liz. In the end, The Mega Powers would emerge victoriously and their team attire would go down in history.

4 “Ravishing” Rick Rude: SummerSlam 1989

During the 80s, “Macho Man” Randy Savage undoubtedly had the most iconic attires. However, many fans often forget just how influential Rick Rude was during this period as far as ring attires go. During the late 80s, Rude would often use his attire to mock his opponents. At summer slam 1989, Rude would be up to his old tricks during his WWE Intercontinental Title defense against The Ultimate Warrior.

That night, Rude wore black tights with airbrushed designs all over. In the front, Rude had an image of Warrior’s face paint that was strategically placed over his crotch. Rude might’ve lost his championship that night but his attire was a winner. Rude would go on to keep having some iconic tights throughout the remainder of his legendary career.

3 Seth Rollins: SummerSlam 2015

In 2014, Seth Rollins did the unthinkable and sold out to The Authority, ending The Shield in the process. From that point forward, Rollins has been a made man in WWE and near the absolute top of the food chain. As one of WWE’s top stars, Rollins typically has a big match at SummerSlam.

perhaps not summer slam match for Rollins was bigger than in 2015 when he faced John Cena in a Champion vs. Champion Match for the WWE and United States Championships. That night, Rollins arguably wore his best attire ever when he went all-white. This gear is affectionately known by fans as the “White Ranger” attire but it was never specified that it was a Power Rangers tribute. Regardless, it was incredible.

two CM Punk: SummerSlam 2012

As revered as CM Punk is among wrestling fans, he’s never exactly been considered a fashionista as far as his ring gear is concerned. Still, after becoming the hottest commodity in pro wrestling in 2011, Punk started to add some more flair to his attire. Punk trunks typically have the same design on them but vary in colors.

At summer slam 2012, Punk was slated to defend his WWE Championship against John Cena and The Big Show. That night, Punk would pay tribute to one of his favorite wrestlers, Bret “The Hitman” Hart. Punk would go with a pink and black color scheme that night that made him stand out beautifully. The Bret Hart tribute is among Punk’s best looks ever.

1 Seth Rollins: SummerSlam 2020

Seth Rollins is undoubtedly one of the greatest performers of this era. His incredible ring talent aside, Rollins “just gets it.” He understands the intricacies of the wrestling business and understands what fans want to see. This is why Rollins often puts a lot of thought into his ring attire from him.

At summer slam 2020, Rollins busted out arguably his most unforgettable look. That night, Rollins paid homage and trolled Rey Mysterio all at the same time when he wore this Halloween Havoc 1997-inspired attire. The purple gear with question marks strategically placed will be hard to top. Although if anyone can, it’s Rollins.
